Our Story

The RABIT software team has been in the field of health research for about 5 years and has implemented various research software at the national level during this time. We developed software for each research project, including cohort software, clinical trial, cross-sectional studies, and disease registry. In 2015, we completed the STEPS project (Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factors Survey in Iran) completely electronically. In this project, information such as questionnaires, anthropometry, tests, etc. from 30,000 people from all over the country was collected, analyzed, and finally reported. The STEPS project had been done several times before, but the quality of information increased significantly compared to previous ones. This growth was to such an extent that the World Health Organization asked our country to present the results of this project in the form of a successful example in the United Nations, and after this success, numerous proposals for software design flowed to our team, but there were several basic problems :

  • Software development was time-consuming and required multiple analysis sessions of the software team with the research team.
  • The cost of software design was high compared to the budget of research systems.
  • The implementation of independent software required a hardware infrastructure.
  • It was not possible to communicate between databases even in the software that we wrote for different projects.
  • Using programming modules in other projects was not easily available.

We used to see all these things, and on the other hand, all the projects had the same structure. Therefore, we decided to design a comprehensive and integrated system for the implementation of research projects that solves all the above problems, minimizes the necessary time and cost, and brings the quality of information to the highest possible level. This was how our story began.
